I Will Miss You Tomorrow by Heine Bakkeid
3.0

Now this is a tricky one to review. This was well-written, the story was quite captivating and easy and fast to read, but I'm not sure I actually liked this book.

Thorkild Aske is a former police officer, straight out of prison, who finds himself in the north of Norway after a young man goes missing on a lighthouse island. Aske's backstory unravels along the rest of the story and only starts to make sense about 2/3 of the way in. He's not an exactly likable man, not really a good man either, but really his only big mistake has been to fall in love. Sounds like the biggest cliche there is, but it comes with a twist.

The disappearance of the young man both is and isn't interesting. There is something predictable about it, but when Aske starts to look into it more some supernatural-ish things pop up and there are even horror elements in this book. The end, while not the most predictable, wasn't quite as interesting as I would have hoped it to be. It all goes down fairly quickly and feels like revelations happen only because they have to.

This wasn't a bad book, not by any means, and while it sucked me in, I struggled with the ending.
