Such R. L. Stine vibes, I love!!!
Scareground is so simple in concept - child with unknown parents and a lot of questions is drawn to a fairground with the gimmick of scares instead of thrills. The light fantasy elements and magical undertones are absolutely delightful additions that really have created such a rich and interesting world.
The characters, I love them! Good amounts of character growth and the kids are very loveable. Each one has a strong personality and holds their own against the main character - they're quite memorable!
The only downside I have is the ending resolution felt a tad rushed, but there was still a good chunk of book left - seemingly a prologue for a whole adventure series to progress on from this book. So many questions left unanswered so certainly do not pick this up if you're expecting a standalone title like it seems to be! I have no idea if this is confirmed to be a series or not, but it's most certainly written like it is. Not a problem for me, but I know a lot of people dislike waiting for series' to release and such.
