James by Percival Everett

5/5⭐️
I flew through this book way faster than I thought. Percival Everett masterfully captures the reading experience of Huck Finn (short chapters, episodic, adventure) while also exploring the nuances and complexities of a character that Mark Twain did not. A tough read at times, so take care to look at any trigger warnings, but for the most part, the pacing of this book and the sharp writing made this a stand out for me. You do NOT need to reread Huck Finn to read this!
