Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward
4.0

Hardback- There’s so many books inside this book. I’m not kidding, I counted at least five swirling through this mass of atmosphere. Catriona Ward always, ALWAYS manages to write a story that grips me utterly by the chest and doesn’t let go until it’s over and I’m thinking about it for days and days after reading. She’s managed to weave several threads together into a deeply unsettling seaside horror that bites at your heels.

The way that Ward pulls you through the book makes you think, truly think, that you know where it’s going, but then you get closer to what you think is the end, and she grabs you by the ankles and leaves you gasping for breath on the beach and wondering how you got there and how she did it.

The story wraps a tragic teenage romance, chilling ghost story, a timeline of a seaside friendship, murder mystery and unsettling, witchy horror/thriller into a neat bow tied with fishing line.
