Behold the Dreamers
by Imbolo Mbue
I found this novel different from other novels dealing with the American dream. As soon as I thought I knew what would happen, there would be a swift change in the evolving story- always keeping the reader guessing. The characters were easy to get attached to, but I don’t miss them now that I’ve finished the book, if that makes sense. To me, character development is important, and I’m not saying they didn’t develop, they clearly did (without spoiling everything). However, there are a few loose ends connected to decisions made by the characters that could be further developed.
P.S I recommend the audiobook narrated by Prentice Onayemi. Absolutely great with all the voices for each character.
