First book to ever make mestart like wtf bro was just reading words on a page.
I really liked it, I thought it was gonna be more cringe but once you've gotten used to the use terms that have become cliché over the years (ie. Big Brother), you're in for a ride.
While I was reading it, I thought that Orwell should have more explicitly told the reader that no, that's not an anti-socialist novel BUT THEN he literally said out loud that the revolution was stolen and that IngSoc was in fact very very not socialist 😭 y'all don't even have an ounce of reading comprehension i swear.
It's a product of a time when left wing revolutions were being stolen to establish USSR-like regimes. So yea, of course IngSoc emerged from the left, the right was not going to make a revolution against itself
I hate that so much of the discourse around this book has been reduced to "leftists bad" when one of the main points of reflection of the novel waswhether it was better to live under capitalism or an authoritarian regime when y'all are living in ✨🇺🇸both🇺🇸✨
