Connelly doesn't disappoint, historically I've tended to prefer the Bosch novels over the Ballard ones, but really enjoyed this one that combines the two.

The ending is definitely left open so we may expect more books featuring this pay.

As his books often are, the story is less about the crime and its solving than the characters involved in solving it
