Our Time Is Now: Power, Purpose, and the Fight for a Fair America by Stacey Abrams

5.0

This book was one of my favorites of 2020. Abrams prose is informative and accessible, smart without being condescending. She explained the specific ways in which the VRA has sustained voter suppression in the south. She outlined policy changes that can be made to ensure better voting practice for all Americans. The book was not about Abrams, though I feel I know her a little better. Rather, the book was about political practice: what makes a good campaign, how to create lasting momentum (one way is through the census), and how to get involved locally. She closed with specific action items for individuals. I feel really excited and motivated after reading this. Abrams doesn't center herself in the political fight, but centers policy and honesty. It's a rarity in politics these days. Stacey Abrams is a gift.
