Burnt Sugar by Avni Doshi

3.5

Burnt Sugar by Avni Doshi has been on my TBR for some time, so I was eager to finally dive into it once I secured a copy from the library. The novel is undeniably well-written, with a smooth narrative flow that showcases Doshi’s skillful prose. However, I found myself struggling to fully engage with the story. The plot moved at a pace that I felt was occasionally too slow, which affected my overall immersion.
Despite its emotional premise, I didn’t connect deeply with the characters, which diminished the impact of the novel’s supposed emotional depth. While I can understand and appreciate the widespread acclaim it has received, it simply didn’t resonate with me as I had hoped.
