In two words: My God.

The magic of this book is that there is always SO much happening, but never too much.

If you buy one book today, or this week, or month - have it be this book.

If You love taking laps around the room, if you were never the type of reader that CAN'T let go of a book. The reader that just doesn't physically scream and gasp and assault the air - read this book (I cried and gasped theatrically more than once).

If like me you are a reader that almost always sees a plot twist coming, read this book. I saw the twist coming from miles away - and it changed nothing. The beauty of this book is not the twists themselves, it's how even when you see them coming, you feel them with all your heart and soul. The shock value of the grand reveal is there even when you know what is about to unfold in front of you, and it hits just as deep, if not deeper.

If you’ve been looking for a fantasy series with a big plot that has politics, a great magic system that I had never seen before and an amazing cast of characters, each unique and different - read this book.

I am speechless even hours after finishing this book, and it's for a multitude of reasons. I enjoyed following Lysta’s journey, whether I agreed with her choices or not.
I hate boring shallow characters and always seek for a cast of funny, strong and versatile characters and this book delivered. There was hardly a single character I didn't feel strongly about, whether I loved them or constantly rolled my eyes at them - none of them bored me.
Did they annoy me? sure.

Was there a specific character that I simply couldn't stand throughout the book? there very much was, but I enjoyed hating them with every fiber of my being (and if a small part of you loves some good hating like I do, I promise you there is a lot to hate about multiple characters).

Were there characters I would sell my first born too just to breathe the same air as them? Absolutely (multiple characters).

If you are here for the romance, sit back and hold tight because it's not even just the enemies to lovers, it's the side couples as well. I will not say too much but only one book in and a certain redhead’s love interest had ME swooning along with her (I have never folded so quickly in my life).
And not to mention our actual enemies to lovers - the TENSION!! The BANTER!! I was laughing, giggling and kicking my feet (and I usually just roll my eyes or tolerate the romance). The balcony scene will remain embedded into my brain, probably forever.

Was this book perfect? No, but if anything that only adds to it. The characters were unique, the setting and worldbuilding was just right for a first book in a series, the politics had me pulling my hair and punching the air, the pacing was intense but not too quick.
A lot happened, yet I immediately wanted more, and I cannot wait for the next book.
