Skinwalkers by Tony Hillerman

5.0

By far the best Tony Hillerman book. When you read the whole series, there are some books that stand out, and this is one of them. It's less predictable than some of his books, with a mystery that I couldn't see through, while retaining some of the best elements of his work - including his vibrant imagery that evokes the southwestern landscape, and the incorporation of Navajo mythology. And once the mystery is revealed, the climax keeps you on the edge of your seat. I could not put it down - and the villain was sympathetic as well, in his own way, even as I hated him for everything he did. If you don't read any other Tony Hillerman book, this is the one to pick!
