Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho

3.0

This was a very different style of book to what I usually read. Yes it still had magic and dragons and elements of fantasy, but the setting of old style England and a society of gentlemen thaumatuges (fancy magicians) and the writing style & language of the book were completely different.
I feel like I've added at least a dozen or so new words to my vocabulary as well (if I can actually remember them and their meanings).

As for the actual story, the first half was slow. At some points extremely slow to the point where I didn't really want to continue, but pushed myself to anyway. Thankfully, it did pay off at least in part because the last 150 pages or so were a lot more fun and felt a lot more natural to read, even with the language. Or perhaps I was just more used to it by then.
Either way those last pages managed to get this up from probably a 2 star rating to the 3 stars it ended up getting.
