Strictly Business
by Kallista Kohl
Not going to lie, it took me a while to ease into the book and start to enjoy it. Knowing right away that there was a power imbalance between the FMC - Izabelle - and MMC - Jake - made me uneasy (his business sponsoring the investing event she is presenting at and he eventually realizes why she is at the resort but doesn’t say anything). I also didn’t like the temper tantrums she would have when she would become overwhelmed and feel that Jake was trying to take over.
BUT… I started to really enjoy the book towards the last third, and especially when Izabelle realizes it is okay to accept help (her refusal was a bit ironic since the premise of her business is to provide help to fledgling CEOs) and when she takes a stand against her ex-boyfriend. I also liked Jake’s growth as he takes responsibility for his actions and takes steps to change things.
Both characters needed, in my opinion, those individual growth opportunities before they could come together for their HEA. The epilogue was a nice wrap-up with the main and secondary characters coming together for a celebration.
