NOS4A2 just sold me the next ten books by Joe Hill. No lie. This book is a perfect mix of deep characterization, action, and most importantly, scars. The traumatic things that happen to us leave disfiguring marks. They might fade with time and become less noticeable, but they're there. Joe Hill mines this truth deeply and perfectly. Bad things happen to the protagonist, Vic, and they travel with her the rest of her life, impacting her world-view and influencing her decisions. A masterful book about past trauma, present consequences, and breaking future cycles.
