Something in the Heir by Suzanne Enoch

2.0

[2.5] I received a copy through a Goodreads giveaway.

Something in the Heir had the potential to be a very cute story, but ultimately fell quite short. While it's classified as a romance, it wasn't very romantic...and I'm not just talking about the spice (there was none). It felt like the "romance" between the leads was a subplot and the kids were central. That being said, I enjoyed the moments between the main couple--they were charming, just few and far between. Oh and be prepared for the word "aroused" to be used as a placeholder for any spice. It was a bit excessive.

My interest in this book certainly waned the longer I read. There's a lot of repetition and the introduction of some obstacles and characters that took away from the story. The storyline with James could have (should have?) been excluded. It was frustrating and took a lot of fun out of the book. Time would have been better spent on the couple's relationship.

This book might appeal to fans of Downton Abbey or Upstairs, Downstairs. It is told from multiple perspectives including the owners and the staff of the estate.
