The Devourers by Indra Das
Did not finish book.
1.0
This book was on my list for a long time and I was excited to finally get my hands on it. But, uh, this was kind of awful. There appeared to be no focus and though the author tried hard to bring the fantasy genre to an Indian context, it was an awful read. I gave up before finishing because this had little to do with Kolkata, and more to with being regressively sensational. I just could not with the story set in the past.
The style of the book mirrored that of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. Those books are seriously problematic as is, you don’t need to emulate those aspects for this book. The whole book just felt derivative, especially the writing style.
I am super disappointed because I was hoping to read a genre tale set in Kolkata but I couldn’t finish it.
