Poets Square: A Memoir in Thirty Cats
by Courtney Gustafson
hopeful
inspiring
reflective
fast-paced
I was expecting this to be a fairly cheesy book about one woman's love for cats and I suppose it was that at times, but it was also an earnest, intersectional book about trap and release volunteering and a look at the impact of community on us if we let it into our lives. Gustafson does a great job balancing the harsh realities of feral cat care with more hopeful stories. This book is deeply empathetic not only with the cats, as you would expect, but also with the communities and people that house feral cat colonies. As someone who loves cats, I found a deep appreciation for Gustafson's perspective.
