A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
5.0
I can’t believe I almost gave up on this book! After a wobbly start, and advice from my online book lovers group, I not only stuck with it, but it made my all time favorites list. (This has NOT been an easy feat for any book in the past five years.)
Here’s the sage advice that made me stick with it that I wholeheartedly agree with...1) there is not a lot of action (so don’t make the mistake of expecting it like I did!), but little vignettes and a worthy ending and 2) the main character, a former Russian Count, is very charming and will very likely capture your heart.
If you don’t go into this book with any preconceptions or expectations, I can’t imagine you won’t like it. Set in Russia in the first half of the 20th century, it has history, superb character development and poetic writing. A must read!
