This was cute! The book's main themes are solidarity and resistance even in the face of dire consequences, which are always themes I'm a fan of. It's also cool to see a story feature two disabled protagonists and have it not really affect the plot at all, the characters are disabled just because. I will say though that I'm disappointed Aneeqah isn't on the cover, in the description, or mentioned in the author's note despite the fact that she features in the book about as much as Carlotta. I'm glad we have a hijabi character, but it does suck that Nijkamp doesn't seem to consider her important to the story despite the fact she plays a large role.
I did have fun reading this, but it didn't really grab me, so I don't think it will end up leaving a big impact on me. I did see on Instagram the other day though that Nijkamp and Bi are planning another book in this world, and I do plan to read that when it releases. Pretty solid read, but nothing super special for me. 3⭐️
