The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward

I feel like I've already forgotten the thoughts I had in the middle of reading this book. And I finished it today. 
First, I understand why this book is discussed so widely. It told the story so well, laying out details in that perfect way where, looking back, you could've realized all along what was happening. And yet, you don't, because of how well Ward weaves the tale and takes you along. I think I guessed pieces of the big reveals as the book progressed, but seeing it all laid out in the end was still fascinating to behold. 

I also think the way it handles conversations about DID is interesting and (potentially) powerful. I would need to read more about how people in the community felt about the book, but I think Ward did an excellent job of showing the reader that people with DID aren't monsters, capable of killing with one personality and loving with another. Instead, they are people who have suffered immense trauma, and are working constantly to protect the child who was once so horrendously abused that they could not survive it without tearing themselves into pieces.

Overall, a great thriller I'll think about and recommend widely.
