Dark and Shallow Lies
by Ginny Myers Sain
The build up in this one was excellent, and I loved the mystical/supernatural space that was created for this lil Louisiana town. The atmosphere, plot, characters, and supernatural elements were so neat and intriguing. I liked how this town was right in the middle of present day, but because of how isolated it was from civilization, it still had an air of older days in the bayou.
I loved the mystery/thriller parts of the story and how it played into the story's overall narrative. I thought the characters and their abilities were given good page time, and I honestly would love to see full stories about each of these characters!
The reason it got 3 stars is because of the ending. Everything just sort of fizzled toward the end, and all the neat and creepy aspects that had been built up and enhanced were just over in a flash. I just wish the book had been a little bit longer so that all the action and intensity wasn't over so quickly.
