Pathogenesis: A History of the World in Eight Plagues by Jonathan Kennedy

informative slow-paced

3.25

While this was incredibly interesting, it did leave much to be desired. It stuck mainly to Eurocentric history rather than “plagues of the world” so the title is slightly misleading. I had no quarrel with the history and still found it informative but with a title proclaiming “history of the world” one does expect some more well-rounded information.

This also focused less on the microbes themselves and more on the history and the eras of the time. Again, I wasn’t against it, per se, but there is so much interesting science that could have been added in that was left out. Maybe it was a conscious choice made for the sake of readability but I felt that it just left me with questions.

Overall, I think it’s worth the read. Just adjust your expectations.
