The Hot Zone by Richard Preston
3.0

Bit of a conundrum rating this. Preston is a great writer, and he tells an entertaining and gripping story. But as it's billed as a true story, the exaggerations about ebola's effects and such are hard to overlook. I've a bit of morbid fascination with plagues and potential plagues, so I've read a non trivial amount about them, and reading this especially in the wake of the 2014 ebola plague drives home those exaggerations. And even though I've read a lot and know better about how ebola actually affects a stricken individual, I still found myself caught up in his descriptions, saying WOAH out loud often before reminding myself that those effects aren't true to life. So, good and entertaining read, with some good details about the discovery and path of ebola, but also exaggerated.
