The Dragon of New Orleans by Genevieve Jack

Did not finish book. Stopped at 49%.
DNF 50% (pg. 170)

This book started out very interesting, even with the fact that the heroine was dying of brain cancer, but that didn’t last. The world building is pretty minimal in this. The magic system is never really explained and Raven’s abilities are also not really explained. I know I didn’t finish the book but at 50% I expected to at least understand how this magic and voodoo filled world worked. Also there is travel between dimensions in this, which is how the dragons got here, and it isn’t explained at all. Raven and Gabriel have a bond that started when he saved her from her cancer but I didn’t really love their relationship. It was a lot of Gabriel and Raven pushing each other away for various reasons, then turning around and jumping into each other's arms. I also didn’t like how Gabriel never seemed to want to answer any of Raven’s questions about magic or his previous employee who was helping with his curse.

This book just isn’t working for me and while I know I can finish it to potentially get some of the answers to the above questions, I also know it won’t be worth it since I haven’t really enjoyed this so far.
