Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

i bought this book when i was around 10 or 11 years old, even though i cannot quite recall why i did that. it's an odd book for a child to want, is it not? either way, im glad i bought it because it's certainly an interesting tale, and the illustrations of this specific copy has definitely enhanced my experience.

the language is quite simple. it's not all that 'flowery' or poetic, and the descriptions weren't that remarkable either. as a matter of fact, it was the illustrations that helped me imagine the setting of this book and the appearance of the characters.

although i believe this is a bit of a stretch, the purpose or reason for writing this story was to show that even though you might know a person well and understand them well, they could very easily have another personality or another manner of behaving with people. i mean that they might treat you and a number of other people decently, but they might also be cruel and awful to others. to conclude my thoughts on this aspect, i believe that what stevenson was trying to tell was that you never really know a person. they could be so much more than you'd ever imagine, regardless of whether it's a positive aspect or not.

overall, i would definitely recommend this book. it's quite an intriguing tale that deserves to be read and cherished.
