Not Art by Peter Esterhazy
2.0
Another reviewer called this novel "playful and plotless", and I can't thank of a more accurate description. And while some readers may legitimately enjoy the discontinuity of Joyce-like prose interspersed with coy historical name-dropping, feverish outbursts, and vague allusions to....what? Wait, where was I?
Anyways, if you love soccer (I mean, really love it), if you re-read "Ulysses" every year, if you've read other novels by Esterhazy and liked them, and if you have a conflicted relationship with your mother, than by all means, read this book. I'm going to leave it at that.
