The World's Wife by Carol Ann Duffy

1.0

I stoped reading this roughly halfway through and just flew over the last poems.
The writing didn't agree with me. It felt exaggeratedly violent and vulgar at times. Sometimes the writing was even awkward and kind of simplistic.

It's a pity because the first poem, "Little Red Cap", was a quite good and powerful start to the collection. Unfortunately, it just went downhill from there for me...
Some poems were just downright man-hating (sorry, I'm just not that kind of feminist) like "Mrs Faust", and others completely vulgar (I'm just not into 10 year old kid's penis jokes) like "Mrs Freud". I like the premise of giving stories another character's perspective but this isn't well executed in my opinion.

It's really a shame, but I probably won't pick up anything else from Carol Ann Duffy. It's just not my kind of poetry.
