It was very interesting to read a woman writing a man in the 60’s, but specifically writing a man who is intended to be a paragon of an entire species, society and biology. I actually felt pretty heartened that nowadays there are a lot of folks who would likely be more accepting of the people of Winter than the far-future’s Genly Ai. We live in a much more open world than we did in 1969, for better and worse.
If I volunteered as an Envoy I’d probably want to go to a planet called Fall though, where everything was the same as on Winter but they liked Halloween and there might be cats? Who knows.
