I picked this book up after watching the Polanski film adaptation and I was as equally as impressed at how close the film stayed true to Ira Levin’s original material. Whilst this book is primarily of a horror genre, I really liked the arguably implicit theme regarding patriarchal and societal control over women. If you strip aside all the supernatural and horror aspects of the novel you are faced with a harsh reality of how women were treated (and are treated) in regards to their own bodies.
