Amaris is awesome! The book could have been all about her and it would have improved massively. I did not like Nox nearly as much, and I question a lot about her motives.
Nox enables the treatment Amaris receives in the orphanage, and the relationship they have is toxic because of that. Amaris dreams of Nox, but she knows few people at such a deep level. How could she dream of anyone else?  She was never allowed to form those bonds. Their relationship romantically is a problematic mess. The author could have avoided the toxic romantic dynamics by making them more like chosen sisters.
