I found the Shane bits were the immersive bits - the third person limited perspective with Claire took a while to get my attention. Scary book, found myself having to pick between it and a scary show in the evening. Very dialogue heavy. Interesting concept and story building - I wish I'd realised it was 10th in a series but that's my own fault and it worked OK as a stand alone novel!
