Cold People by Tom Rob Smith

It was a cool book, the descriptions of the alien invasion sent chills down my spine and I particularly liked the creative 'light' themed powers the aliens seemed to have. It never makes sense when aliens end up with metal spaceships and guns- they're probably gonna be vastly different from us! Why would they create the same way as us humans? The story turns from a seemingly normal and warm young adult romance into icy cold sci-fi. The concept of genetically modified humans was cool as well, although the ending of the story fixated around a love story of an ordinary man and a centaur-like human hybrid, which I found slightly silly and hard to grasp. I guess it shows that love has the ability to blind one, to the point of not realizing it could be harmful, for the person in love and all of humanity in this case.
