Queen of the Cicadas was so many things. The line between complex and messy can be tricky to walk, but V. Castro did it beautifully. We have Aztec folklore, insightful commentary on colonialism and racism, some “Final Destination” vibes, and a horror novel in which I root for the “monster.” Next time you need a scary read that is more than just a scary read, definitely pick this one up. It was fantastic. Big shout out to @hellalibrary for recommending this one!
