Hello, Sunshine
by Laura Dave
At one point I was a semi-popular food Instagrammer (currently on hiatus because it stressed me out too much), so I was really interested in this novel about a food blogger / Youtuber who gets the rug pulled out from under her. Sunshine Mackenzie is really on the ups — about to start a Food Network gig — until she gets hacked and it's revealed that she's a big fake AND she cheated on her husband. So she loses everything and has to figure out how to reinvent herself.
I would say this was super enjoyable UNTIL the end when it got really preachy. Suddenly the story devolved into long diatribes about being true to yourself and not being fake and how everyone's lying on social media so stop trying to keep up with the Jones's. Sigh. We get it. You don't have to belabor the point. I would still recommend because overall it was a fun read.
