We Need to Talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver

Did not finish book. Stopped at 28%.
This is my first DNF in over a year. Oofda. I had to force myself to read the 120 pages of this book that I did. I really tried to push through but life is too short to read books I don't enjoy. The writing is so tedious. It's so flowery that, at times, I had no idea what the main character was even blathering on about and had to go back and reread sections. I knew it was time to DNF it when it literally started to put me to sleep. I've seen other review that say the last third of the book is a lot better but, based on what I read, that last third would have to be dynamite to make up for the nearly 300 pages of tear-inducing boredom I'd have to endure for the potential payoff. I will say that, in general, I don't connect with books with unlikable characters so that preference probably has a lot to do with my dislike of this novel. The main character is insufferable and entitled. I could find very little to like about her. I was really hoping that there would be some kind of social commentary on mental health issues or gun control but the only message I was really getting was "Some people are just evil. Deal with it." That is so far from how I see the world that this novel just didn't connect with me.
