The Consequence of Loving Colton by Rachel Van Dyken

How does this book manage to press all my buttons? Frankly, it's pretty impressive. For example, there are a couple jokes that trivialize suicide, which just baffles me. Here's the one that made me stop reading:
"Shit, he's going into shock," Colton murmured. "Quick, someone do something! He's not breathing." "Committing suicide." Max exhaled and closed his eyes like he was in pain. "By holding his breath. Brave little tyke, well, we had a good run, Brother." Max slapped him on the back. "A good run." Reid shrugged, still holding his breath.

I might just be super sensitive to this stuff, since I've had personal experience with suicide, but how is that funny? It just pisses me off how van Dyken jokes about suicide as if it doesn't kill 800,000 people per year. Plus, why does a guy "sacrifice his manhood" when he goes to a bachelorette party? What does that even mean? And do these sexist stereotypes really need to be even more entrenched in society? I didn't think so.

As for the actual romance, the whole plot rests on the fact that Colton and what's-her-name are apparently incapable of communicating with each other.
SpoilerIf they'd just said that they liked each other, this whole goddamn dilemma would have been solved ages ago!
I'm stopping before I pull all my hair out.
