It's a fast-paced, bold coming-of-age story. While some of the vernacular and elements of the story feel dated, the message of identity remains timeless. Some readers may be offended/put off by some sexual material that could be deemed inappropriate for the target age group (e.g. conversations characters have about their growing bodies, playing spin-the-bottle, rumors of characters hooking up). However, it addresses menstruation in a refreshingly frank and funny way.
