The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

3.0

This book is fun, but I don't think I'd call it clever.
- The mystery of a character's death has a very unsatisfying ending considering all of the bits and pieces we learned leading up to the death
- The mystery of
Spoiler Avery's attempted murder
is forgotten and then shoe-horned in at the end without a full or satisfying explanation.
- There was a needless twist at the end
- It was impossible to solve who Avery is because we don't have all of the information until Avery shares it with us as she figures it out.

So if you're looking for a shocking or gripping mystery, look elsewhere.

If you're looking for a love triangle, look elsewhere. We're told there's one, but they spend way more time actually building up one love interest over the other where we just get internal monologuing about "What is it about him?"

If you're looking for a story where the main character and her sister are "not like other girls" and her primary antagonists are catty sisters and a mean girl from school who loves high fashion, then sure, pick this one.

If you're looking for a story that repeats the same lines over and over again, then definitely choose this one.

And if you're looking to just read something fun and not overanalyze everything you read because you're not an English teacher and can enjoy a book for what it is without having to analyze and criticize every part of it? Definitely read this one.
