The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie

5.0

The world building reminded my intensely of The Wild Trilogy by Linda Nagata, which means it also put me in mind of the Spirit Island board game. Leckie continues her experimentation which story-telling forms, featuring a split narration style but with the same narrator telling both the past first person and the present second person story. And how fascinating to have an unreliable narrator but one who is also incapable of speaking explicit falsehoods. You don't realize just how much that is impacting the story until the ending and wow, that ending.
Spoiler You don't fully realize just how much the god stone has manipulated everything until the last couple pages when bam, so much death and betrayal.
