The Assist by Rebecca Jenshak

5.0

I am a sucker for a sports romance with a hot jock, in a classic university setting and the added drama of ex-partners. So as you can guess this book was right up my alley, but oh boy did it go above and beyond what I expected. I absolutely fell in love with Wes's demeanour and protectiveness of Blair. Maybe it was the smart jock vibe with the glasses? Can't really blame a girl.

The difference between The Assist and other sports romances I have read previously was the conflict scene within the storyline. Sometimes these are written within a couple of chapters and then everything is fine and dandy with a HEA. Rebecca made Wes work his arseeee off to get Blaire back and even then he had to go the extra mile. The conflict was also written in a way that as a reader I could relate to. Wes and Blaire acted like grown-ups and not the drama induced children that some characters can get thrown back into. The only character that fell into that trap was David, but he deserved it because as V would say while she kicked him in the balls is 'douche canoe'.
