True Crime Story by Joseph Knox
2.0

The structure of this book kept me reading: it's presented as though it's true, and consists of "interviews" with all of the people involved in a college student's disappearance. Each chapter is framed with emails between the (real) author of the book and the (fictional) author of the book. Unfortunately, few of the characters' voices stood out as unique, and while the structure allowed the (real) author to play around with red herrings and misdirection, the ending was ultimately unsatisfying and the book began to feel incredibly long: a tedious slog. None of the characters were particularly sympathetic or interesting, and the utter grimness of what happens to several of the female characters was annoying.
