The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove by Christopher Moore
2.0

SpoilerIt's been 8 years since I've read a Christopher Moore book, and I liked this one significantly less. I'm not sure if my sense of humor has changed or if the subject matter is just less interesting. I'm leaning towards subject matter because the previous two that I've read were Lamb and A Dirty Job, both of which are still topics I would read about now. And this one has its positives for sure. Moore is a good writer in that he manages to balance absurdity with characters you can root for. Not only that, but said characters show actual growth as the plot moves along, which I'm always a fan of. What I'm absolutely not a fan of is bestiality, and I would not have read this if I knew how heavily it plays into the story. Fictional sea monster or not, it counts, and it's just not something I find humor in. And it's not even just limited to the sea monster either. So it pretty much ruined the story for me, but at least I'm reminded that I do like Moore as an author and I'm going to try again (just being a little more careful to figure out the subject matter first).
