Lady Chatterley's Lover by D. H. Lawrence
1.0

I don’t really know what I was thinking picking up this book. I think I had really off expectations because I had just watched the Netflix adaptation and was expecting romance.

This is not a romance. At least not by modern standards. Maybe if I came at this book with a more analytical lens of understanding society at the time, and more of an appreciation for the context of the time in which this book was written. But honestly, I’m just here for a fun enjoyable time, and this book was not that!

Super unromantic descriptions of nonconsensual sex, so much sexism, racism, classism. And it was just a boring plot too.

Well done to Netflix for making a modern adaptation that was enjoyable. Unfortunately, the original book wasn’t for me.

I did not finish this book, put it down at 66%. (I’m trying to teach myself it’s okay to stop reading a book that you’re not enjoying. The decision for this book was made particularly easy because I know the movie’s version of the story and I’m just going to leave it at that.)
