Jock Row by Sara Ney

erm well i don’t know how i read this entire thing but i did it. it was one of those weird reads where i didn’t feel compelled to DNF but i truly didn’t care or like at the same time.

there were some cute moments i guess, and i did like how down bad rowdy was for scarlett. i’m also forever a sucker for the baby nickname so they kinda got me there…

other than that the writing was mid and the dialogue was abysmal.. i’ve read another book by this author that had the same issue with the borderline misogynistic writing, so idk why i thought this one would be any different. safe to say i won’t be reading anymore of her books. ig read this is you aren’t bothered by the use of the word “female”, the not like other girls trope, and general weird toxic dude bro mentality that was displayed at times…

besides the fact that i question how this could be written by a woman (perhaps some weird attempt at humor..?) the pacing was strange. it was all very instalovey. i was absolutely bamboozled when rowdy was being an asshole and literally kicking scarlett out of a party yet she was still there talking about how sexy and funny he is.. girl get a grip!! pretty quickly after he got better and stopped being such an asshole, but still.. weird reaction to have to a man who’s being such a dick.

speaking of- the friends who dragged scarlett to these parties weren’t mentioned a single time after the first few weekends.. like they were shitty friends to begin with by not standing up for scarlett when ben was being a mega douche but then after that they just vanished. this is just a part of the bigger issue which was that neither of these characters had any character
