Bonnie doesn't remember much, but a rebel assassin hardly needs to know more than her mission, which is currently one Lord of Libraries, Frederick Stonewood. Unfortunately for Bonnie, things take a sudden detour leaving her to travel home with Freddie to deliver intel that will save the rebellion. Emily Eve’s debut novel, “Blackthorn” is a wild ride from start to finish. Bonnie was a badass with a knife, full of sass and snark. But, she also managed to have a heart full of gold that drew anyone around her into her mystery. Once I picked up this novel, there was no putting it down.
Set on the Continent years after magic has vanished from the people, rebellion brews as Bonnie and her leaders attempt to take down King Aborn before he extends his ironfist to the rest of the free countries. She knows her path in life and is prepared to follow her duty, until another battle-injury shakes her faith. There's something she doesn't quite remember. Something that might change everything.
When I first stumbled across “Blackthorn”, I was intrigued. A bookish Lord? An assassin meets Snow White main character? I was so ready to dive in and signed up for the ARC. When I finally got the chance to open up the book late one evening, I proceeded to binge the entire story, finishing it a few hours after the sun came up the next morning. I absolutely couldn't put it down with the twists, turns, and banter between Freddie and Bonnie. I’m definitely a fan of Emily Eve and will follow her author’s journey closely!
