I Have Sinned by Caimh McDonnell
5.0

It's really easy to claim each of Caimh McDonnell's books is his best yet — but there is no denying that he does just get better and better.
Continuing with Bunny McGarry's adventures in America, I have Sinned picks up where Disaster Inc left off — as Bunny continues to try and track down the woman of his dreams but keeps getting side-tracked by events.
On this occasion, in order to achieve his goal he must spend time with a priest who is not all he seems.
And naturally, the priest is not on board with this plan.
Teaming back up with other the stars of Disaster, Smithy and Diller, Bunny must rescue people, save people and avoid serious injury. And not necessarily in that order.
And again, McDonnell has crafted a tale that once started can not be put down.
Darker in tone than his previous books, fewer laugh-out-loud moments make way for a gritty tale of gangs in New York — which is not to say this book isn't funny (a moment with a rollercoaster and a baseball bat had us spilling our tea all over the place), it's just a smidge more serious.
But then we're dealing with teenagers shooting each other and a meglomaniac leader of a cult. So it's totally understandable.
Starting off gently, with a flavour of Raymond Chandler minus the sexism and racism, Sinned builds slowly and beautifully to a crescendo that will have you wincing, cheering and laughing all at the same time.
Book three promises to be a belter.
