The Story of Babar: The Little Elephant by Jean de Brunhoff

1.0

When his mother is killed by a hunter, Babar escapes to the city...where he is "civilized" by a rich old lady. While he loves living in the city, he misses his fellow elephants, and finally returns to herd and becomes king of the elephants.

Similar to Curious George, The Story of Babar was beloved when it was first published...but has some serious undertones of colonialization.
