This has aged badly. Yellow Peril, the book.

It is also pretty boring, given how little actual danger seems to be present, and that the protagonist immediately gains the trust of everyone. There is an interesting set-up, killed by dull writing and characters as flat as a sheet of paper that has been rolled under something heavy.
