Dead Beat
by Jim Butcher
I am listening my way through this series with delight. James Marsters does a magnificent job reading these, and while they may not be fine literature, they are enjoyable, and certainly not pedicatble. This one has a few quirks, with characters appearing and disappearing to no real purpose (Karen and Thomas, at different points), but what the heck. It's fun. Harry is an engaging character, sometimes just a tad too much, but there's enough moral ambiguity to keep things interesting, and a reasonably coherent world in which magic follows laws that seem consistent enough. And who could not love his ride? I won't describe it here (big time spoiler).
These work better as audiobooks than as print books for me, mainly because Marsters does such a brilliant job of rendering Harry, Bob and everybody else. Kudos to him.
