some good stuff about genocide and loneliness and forgiveness. EXCELLENT snowy atmosphere. had some weird ableistic eugenics where it was suggested that disabled people would rather be dead (and maybe should be), which i felt really undermined the strength of the genocide portions. not all the primary documents were equally compelling. i really like how sarah writes though. this sentence of a son describing his father was particularly beautiful to me “I think of him now as a piece of mirror hanging on a wall: empty, unless another man walked past.” (33)
